In the 21st Century, understanding and delivering the environmental requirements for product registration and manufacturing in global markets is a vital part of AstraZeneca's continuing success.
Key Role
Playing a key role in this aspect is our Brixham Environmental Laboratory, our Global Safety, Health and Environment Operations site. It has built a world-renowned reputation for environmental science - providing a high quality service which is specifically targeted to ensure AstraZeneca maintains its ability to operate throughout the world.
Evaluation
At our Brixham Environmental Laboratory facility we carry out laboratory evaluation of AstraZeneca products, intermediates and effluents to ensure regulatory compliance and increased understanding of their environmental fate and effects. Brixham Environmental Laboratory also undertakes some work for external organisations and has done so for over 50 years.
From here, we co-ordinate our Environmental Foresight programme which maintains awareness of current regulatory thinking and alerts the business to new legislative initiatives. We also undertake targeted environmental research to provide solutions to future business needs, and participate in collaborative programmes - for example, working jointly with other members of the pharmaceutical industry, academia and regulatory organisations.
Providing Support
The team at Brixham also provide advice in support of other members of the AstraZeneca Corporate Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) community on manufacturing processes and issues, and maintain up-to-date SHE information for the company using computer systems developed on-site.
Brixham Environmental Laboratory was first-established in 1948 as a testing facility. Our site at Brixham now has modern, purpose-built office and laboratory facilities for over 90 staff, and continually develops its skills and services to meet ever-increasing environmental requirements.
