Sarah Wolf - 26 years old, recently married and lives in London

Sarah has been experiencing GORD symptoms for 3 years.

It's like a burning sensation that rises up my throat. I usually have it every day, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern as to when or why, which makes it all the more frustrating to deal with." Sarah has noticed that her symptoms are particularly bad when she is stressed or tired.

Sarah consulted her physician about her symptoms, and was told to lose weight and quit smoking. 'I stopped smoking for other health reasons, but unfortunately this seems to have made little difference to the symptoms of GORD.'

Sarah is not taking prescription medicine, but is using an over the counter product to ease the pain. "I never leave the house without alginate gel tablets in my pocket, since I don't know when it will act up next. But that only provides relief for a little while, and sooner or later it comes back again."
