More than 2000 passenger journeys are made every month by the
Kinch Bus service route 7 and keeping travellers happy for all those trips is
no easy task. The service runs from the University to the town's railway
station and the industrial area on the Derby side of Loughborough and among the
companies whose staff regularly travel on the bus is medicines research and
development company, AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood. The service is an important part of AstraZeneca's Green
Commuting Policy which encourages staff to travel to work by more
environmentally friendly means: so two years ago the company decided to sponsor
a Bus Driver's Award for this service with the winner chosen from staff at its
Bakewell Road site. This year's winner, Kevin who also picked up last year's prize,
received £100 for use at a leading local DIY shop as his reward and, together
with the two runners-up, he also enjoyed lunch at AstraZeneca with some of the
company's Commuting Team many of whom are among his regular passengers.
