Macclesfield as one of the projects to mark the Company's first birthday. Over
200 employees who work at the Alderley Park and Macclesfield sites volunteered
their support. On September 14, AstraZeneca hosted a Fun Day for around 20 of
the children at the Mulberry's Sports Centre at Alderley Park. Various
activities and entertainment were provided, including face painting, a bouncy
castle, a balloon modeller, a juggler and a disco. The youngsters were also
provided with a special lunch on site. Linda Mainwaring, Project manager at AstraZeneca said, "The fun
day provides a great opportunity for Management and staff to offer hands on
help to special needs children and is an example of AstraZeneca's desire to
reach out in to the Community." The link with the school goes much further, as in the half term
break from October 21 several improvement projects in the school will be
carried out, run and managed by staff volunteers supported by specialists
Park Lane Special School caters for over 60 special needs
children aged between two and 19 - all of whom have severe communication,
physical and/or sensory difficulties. To attract employee support, information stands were placed in
site restaurants at AstraZeneca where individuals could pledge their help as
volunteers for the Fun Day and the project to refurbish parts of the
school.Ends
