TWO teams from AstraZeneca's Tablets Manufacturing Department at
Macclesfield Works undertook a project to re-decorate and help equip several
communal rooms at the Macclesfield Women's Aid centre in
Macclesfield. The two day project was a combination of "Changing Rooms" and
"Challenge Anneka" with materials donated from local businesses. The aim was to
perform a makeover on a bathroom, a kitchen, hallway and playroom. Macclesfield Women's Aid aims to provide safe accommodation and
advice to women and their children who have suffered abuse within the home.
Counsellors offer support and advice to women who have experienced abuse and
they advise on the needs of any children who may be involved. Part of the
support is to encourage women to determine their own future and take steps
towards achieving this. Andrew Pal, Manager of AstraZeneca's Tablets Department said:
"Upgrading the Women's Aid centre was a great opportunity for the teams to help
the community and complete something together outside the normal work
environment. Their goals were accomplished not only through the combined
skills, effort, enthusiasm and teamwork of staff involved, but also through the
generosity of local businesses* who provided some of the DIY
materials".Linda Grant, Director of the MWA said, "We are delighted with
the transformation of the refuge. Our residents arrive here with serious
problems and the surroundings do have an impact on their disposition. By making
the centre more attractive and better equipped their recovery is far easier. On
behalf of staff, residents and committee our sincere thanks and appreciation go
to AstraZeneca."Ends
