To many, throwing a frisbee around is just good fun but many
people do not realise that it is also a highly organised sport and a local
girl, Suzanne Penfold, is one of the leading players in the
country.Suzanne, who works at AstraZeneca R & D Charnwood, came
third in the Open national Championships in Leicester recently, when her team,
Cheltenham BAF, won four matches to reach the semi-finals. She also represented
Great Britain at the World Championships in Stuttgart as a member of the mixed
team which finished in fourth place being beaten in the semi-finals by the USA
where the sport was invented.Suzanne was introduced to the game at University five years ago
and is now hooked on it. It is, she said, an energetic game and very exciting
to watch."Frisbee is not just throwing and catching a plastic disc - it
is physically demanding - players run up to four miles each game - and very
skillful," she said. "Points are scored by catching the disc in an end zone and
sportsmanship is encouraged by players calling their own fouls."Ends
