Caring workers at a prominent Loughborough company aim to avoid
buying Christmas Cards this year so that much needed money can go to help
homeless people.Staff at AstraZeneca R & D Charnwood have been given the
opportunity to wish colleagues a 'Happ e-Christmas' by signing one electronic
card and making a donation to Collect for Christmas, a campaign run by
Leicestershire Carers to provide much-needed help to the homeless. And for every pound raised from the donations, the company has
said it will match it, doubling the amount raised. The cash will be used to
provide starter packs of household necessities such as kitchen equipment and
cleaning materials for the Loughborough-based Charnwood Shelter Project to help
homeless people moving into permanent homes.Worth c. £50 each, the starter packs will be assembled
by AstraZeneca's own Logistics Department for distribution by Charnwood Shelter
staff.A spokesman for the company said: "We ran an electronic
Christmas card two years ago and it proved very popular. This year, with staff
signing up to one electronic card not only will it help the environment by
saving trees but will also be supporting a very good cause."Ends
