A massive £27,000 will provide a major boost for arts in
the Charnwood area, thanks to a prestigious national award.Hot on the heels of a second three year £12,000
sponsorship from AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood, Loughborough's medicines
research company, to continue their successful Arts in the Community Scheme
with Charnwood Arts, comes the fantastic news that the project has been
recognised by the Government funded Arts & Business New Partners
Scheme. This sees Arts and Business putting £15,000 into the
scheme over its three year period - making a fantastic £27,000
total."We are very proud to have gained this high profile recognition
for our scheme" says Kevin Ryan at Charnwood Arts.A lot of work from both Charnwood Arts and AstraZeneca went into
the application process and we are delighted that the merits of the scheme have
been recognised at a national level. The first part of the scheme - just about to be launched - is
the popular Arts in the Community Awards - with a single prize of £1,000
and two prizes of £500.The scheme encourages local groups to put their thinking caps on
and come up with ideas for projects which take place from autumn of 2001.
Entry forms will be available by end of May from Charnwood Arts
on 01509 822558.Meanwhile the bulk of the project focuses on local music
development at a community level with opportunities for local groups to take
part in a major project with the London based Grand Union
Orchestra.Ends
