Hospital staff surf the net

Staff, students and trainee nurses at Loughborough Hospital are getting hands on experience of the use of the World Wide Web thanks to a leading local company.
Staff, students and trainee nurses at Loughborough Hospital are getting hands on experience of the use of the World Wide Web thanks to a leading local company.

Not everyone has a computer nor do they understand the way in which the Internet can be used to gain knowledge. So when the hospital on Epinal Way connected the computer in its resource room to the Internet, several members of staff were unsure of how they could use it to get the maximum benefit from the mass of information available on the web.

An approach to AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood, the medicines research and development company, provided the answer. The company is providing training sessions for staff to show them how to access the Internet and how to find their way around sites of interest to their work and studies.

Jo Nicholls, Loughborough Hospital's Support Services Manager, said: "We are very grateful to AstraZeneca and its staff who came to the hospital to give people here the insight they needed on how the Internet could be accessed and used to their advantage."
