The deadline for anyone hoping to get their hands on a prize in this year's Arts in the Community awards scheme is fast approaching with applications due by 23 July 2001.

There are three awards, sponsored by Loughborough's medicines research company AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood. The cash is aimed at providing the essential funds needed to get new arts projects off the ground. It is intended to help with costs such as equipment, materials and production, copyright and professional help costs.

The funding is provided in two categories:- one major award of £1,000 linked to a project with the Grand Union Orchestra called 'Dr Carnival'. This project award is open to any group interested in developing a carnival arts related project in the performing or visual arts and two smaller awards of £500 for projects in any art form including carnival or related performance arts.

The competition is open to groups and people living within the borough of Charnwood or within a four mile radius of the AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood site in Loughborough.

Entry forms are available from Charnwood Arts, Granby Street, Loughborough, or by phoning 01509-822558 and must be returned by 23 July to be in with a chance.
