Bev Salt, President, AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing Company has made a commitment to donate a total of £75,000 over three years to Keech Cottage Children's Hospice, Luton.

One donation of c. £15,000 which will come from the AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing Company, will be used to develop a pilot study into a new innovative area of CyberCare, the use of computer technology to provide medical care and advice to patients in their own home. In addition, The Astra Foundation* will donate a total of c. £60,000 over three years to be utilised for maintenance and running of the Hospice.

"On behalf of AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing Company, I am delighted to make this donation to Keech Cottage Children's Hospice. AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing Company is committed to its community relations programme and developing links with local schools, charitable institutions and companies. Keech Cottage Children's Hospice provides much needed care and support and a 'home from home' to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, enabling them to live life to the full," says Bev Salt.

Dominic Munro-McCarthy, Trusts and Grants Officer, Keech Cottage Children's Hospice commenting on the donation said, "The money to build Keech Cottage Children's Hospice was raised in record time, £3.5 million in 18 months. However the hospice needs £1 million a year for running costs and this generous donation will be of great benefit to the hospice. The CyberCare study is an exciting new area of medicine and the donation will help towards the development of new technology that could allow people with terminal illnesses to receive medical care and advice in the comfort of their own homes."

Keech Cottage Children's Hospice was opened by the HRH The Princess Royal in March this year. The Hospice provides day, inpatient, respite and terminal care for families who face the loss of their child to a terminal or life-limiting illness and since its opening has provided support to more than 90 families. In addition to high grade medical care, families can get expert help and advice 24 hours a day from an experienced team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and bereavement counsellors.

AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing employs over 1800 people and has its headquarters at Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. AstraZeneca UK Sales and Marketing will be relocating to Capability Green, Luton in 2001.
