Dare you don your dazzling denims? This was the question put to staff at AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood

Local as well as national charities stand to benefit from almost £2,000 donated by staff at Loughborough's medicines research company after an afternoon of 'dazzling denims'

Local as well as national charities stand to benefit from almost £2,000 donated by staff at Loughborough's medicines research company after an afternoon of 'dazzling denims'

It was all part of this year's 'Genes for Jeans National Appeal' raising money for national charities that research into serious and often life threatening genetic disorders affecting thousands of people. AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood showed its appreciation by matching the £900 figure raised by staff with a similar amount and donating the monies to local charities concerned with genetic conditions.

Several local groups have already been contacted but if you feel your group falls into this category, please contact Pena Sacchetta on 01509 645912. The closing date for consideration is Friday 19 October and groups will be contacted thereafter if successful.

A spokeswoman for the company said "We had a fantastic day with many of our 1,200 staff wearing some outrageous denim jeans and paying £1 for the privilege, ultimately raising money for some worthy charities at the same time."
