AstraZeneca is confirming a significant commitment to clinical R
and D in the UK with the formation of a new Clinical Research Group,
integrating three of its existing clinical research groups in the
UK.
The UK Clinical Research Group has been launched at a meeting
in Glasgow attended by Dr Tom McKillop, Chief Executive, AstraZeneca and Bev
Salt, President, UK Sales and Marketing, AstraZeneca.
The UK Clinical Research Group is the result of integration of
three clinical research groups from around the country to form one cohesive
operation that will provide maximum flexibility of resource and best utilise
individual expertise. It will have its centre in Edinburgh, with staff working
in Hertfordshire, Manchester and regionally throughout the UK.
The UK Clinical Research Group will lead clinical research
projects in the UK by liaising with physicians from around the country to
generate patient data in clinical trials for AstraZeneca. "The new group will
provide high quality research for global R and D and AstraZeneca UK for the
development of innovative, effective medicines," says Anne Lennon, Head of the
UK Clinical Research Group.
"AstraZeneca is committed to developing and
maintaining a strong presence in the field of clinical research. The UK
Clinical Research Group will employ 150 people who between them have expertise
in all aspects of clinical research," explains Rhiannon Rowsell,
Medical Director, AstraZeneca.
The UK Clinical Research Group, in size, is second only to the
USA within the AstraZeneca country network worldwide.
