AstraZeneca UK Marketing Company appoints new President

Chris Brinsmead is to join AstraZeneca's UK Marketing Company as Company President in January 2002. He will be responsible for overseeing the 1,800 employees and ensuring AZ maintains its leading position in the UK market.
Chris Brinsmead is to join AstraZeneca's UK Marketing Company as Company President in January 2002. He will be responsible for overseeing the 1,800 employees and ensuring AZ maintains its leading position in the UK market.

Chris has a track record of over twenty years in the industry. He was formerly with ICI and Zeneca and most recently had global responsibility in AstraZeneca for the Oncology portfolio of brands. Chris's expertise in managing products in both the R&D and launch phases mean he is strongly positioned to consolidate the company's position in the market place - bringing the organisation's innovative and life changing products to patients in the UK.

Regional Vice President Europe, Ulf Sather commented: "The UK is one of AstraZeneca's key markets. Chris's leadership and valuable experience will be central to delivering commercial success from our strong pipeline and ensuring growth through our exciting portfolio of products".

The UKMC was formed two years ago following the merger of Astra and Zeneca. It has been through a period of rapid growth and more recently consolidation under Beverley Salt who has also overseen the extremely successful launches of the PPI, Nexium, and the asthma treatment, Symbicort She is taking on the role of Vice President, Strategic Planning with particular emphasis on Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Beverley will be based at the global headquarters in London and report into Bruno Angelici, Executive Vice President, International Sales & Marketing Organisation, AstraZeneca.

The core purpose of the UK Marketing Company is to create demand for and sell AstraZeneca products. It is responsible for all customer interface in the UK which includes an extensive clinical research programme, as well as marketing, sales and customer services. The company has an impressive track record being number one in terms of sales in Oncology, Gastroenterology and Anaesthesia and number two in Respiratory and Cardiovascular markets in the UK. This division of AZ UK now employs over 1,800 people who are split between the headquarters in Luton, the field based clinical and commercial staff and the Clinical Research Group in Scotland. The UKMC is the largest marketing division within AstraZeneca outside the USA.
