Free decorations help bring Christmas cheer

A sure sign that Christmas is just around the corner is the festive decorations. But the cost of buying all the ones needed to fill a school, playgroup or village hall can be high.
A sure sign that Christmas is just around the corner is the festive decorations. But the cost of buying all the ones needed to fill a school, playgroup or village hall can be high.

Seven local worthy causes are very happy, therefore, with Loughborough's medicines research and development company AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood who offered a free dip into its Goodie Bag of surplus Christmas decorations.

The offer, which was open only to schools, charities and voluntary groups, was quickly taken up by, amongst others, the League of Friends of Loughborough Hospital, Maplewell Hall and Woodbrook Vale High schools and St. Winifredes Playgroup.

A spokeswoman for AstraZeneca said: "We had a surplus stock of decorations built up over the years and it seemed sensible to offer these to worthy causes instead of simply throwing them away."

The seven lucky groups called in to the AstraZeneca facility in Loughborough to pick up their parcels - now, all they have to do is put them up!
