Joint effort helps asthma sufferers

A local Rotary Club has joined hands with Loughborough medicines research company to help asthma patients of a village health centre.

A local Rotary Club has joined hands with Loughborough medicines research company to help asthma patients of a village health centre.

Three new nebuliser machines, each costing around £200, which enable asthma medication to be given to patients quickly and effectively have been donated to Barrow upon Soar Health Centre by the Rotary Club of Soar Valley and Loughborough's second largest employer AstraZeneca R&D Charnwood.

The three machines bring the total number held by the Health Centre to nine. Eric Hill of the Rotary Club of Soar Valley said "The Health Centre has more than 600 patients who suffer from asthma and the members of the Rotary Club of Soar Valley wanted to help alleviate their problems. The cost of the two machines was raised during the Rotary's Christmas collection in Barrow and the surrounding villages"

"A nebuliser delivers medication in the form of a fine spray which is inhaled through a face mask, the machine is particularly useful for infants, children and the infirm who find it difficult to inhale using the normal hand-held spray and also when there is a severe attack."
