Forty-Eight youngsters from secondary schools in Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel, Wilmslow, Knutsford and Alderley Edge are next week (13-19th April) attending an Outward Bound Course at Ullswater in the Lake District, sponsored by AstraZeneca.
AstraZeneca donates £10,000 per year to the Outward Bound organisation to provide a bursary to enable deserving youngsters reach their full potential.
The bursary is now in its sixth year and qualifying youngsters are from Knutsford, Wilmslow, All Hallows Macclesfield, Alderley Edge School for Girls, and Holmes Chapel High Schools.
Young people chosen to attend this year's weeklong course spent a day at AstraZeneca's Alderley Park site getting to know each other and joining in ice breaking exercises.
Wendy Priest, Community Relations Officer for AstraZeneca, said, "Approximately 200 pupils from 15 secondary schools in the region have benefited during the last six years from attending one of our Outward Bound sponsored courses. The pupils always return from their week in the Lake District with a boost in confidence. We hope the benefits experienced will remain throughout their school life and into their chosen careers."
Accompanying the youngsters will be their teachers who will spend the week in Ullswater. They will see the pupils give a presentation and receive their certificates on the last day of an action packed week.
The AstraZeneca Outward Bound Bursary Project is part of the Company's commitment to youth and its local community.
